Regional workshop to introduce the WHO new growth curves in countries of the Eastern Mediterranean Region

Venue & logistics

:::: Accomodation

The World Health Organization has arranged accommodation for the participants of the above workshop at the Sheraton Oman Hotel, Muscat, Oman, P.O.Box 1889, 112 Ruwi, Muscat, Oman. Telephone: 968 24600 989; 968 24605 860; Facsimile: 968 24602 637.

The cost of the accommodation is as follows:

  • Single room 99 USD (38.000 RO)
  • Double room 130 USD (50.000 RO)

The above rate is subject to 12% taxes and inclusive of buffet breakfast.

Participants have to confirm reservation prior to their arrival in case of staying at the Sheraton Oman Hotel, otherwise, participants will bear the cost of the number of nights or any other cancellation fees requested by the hotel.

All participants will be met at the airport if their full names, nationality, passport number and exact time of arrival have been previously communicated.

:::: Registration

Registration will be on 12 September 2005 from 08:30 to 09:00, in the Sheraton Oman Hotel, Muscat, Oman, where the workshop is held. The opening session will be at 09:00.

:::: Language of the workshop

The language of the workshop is English.

:::: Perdiem

Participants staying at the Sheraton Oman Hotel will receive a daily allowance of USD 181.- for the duration of the workshop, including authorized travel time as per our designated itinerary (except for residents of Muscat).

Should there be a change in the itinerary indicated by EMRO, you are kindly requested to obtain a statement from the Airline/Travel Agency to that effect. In accordance with the rules of the Organization, the allowance is paid from the first day of travel over the most direct route up to and including the day before the traveler returns home on the first available flight after the closure of the workshop. Beyond the payment of this allowance, WHO accepts no responsibility for the payment of the hotel bills, meals, taxis, visas, excess baggage charges, insurance, ground transport charges, airport taxes and other incidental expenses. These liabilities should be settled directly by participants.

:::: Medical facilities

Should there be need for medical attendance, the reception desk at the Sheraton Oman Hotel should be contacted.

:::: Reconfirmation of tickets

Please complete the attached form regarding your return reservation and hand it over along with your ticket during registration to the secretary of the workshop, for reconfirmation.

:::: Travel of participants

The Organization is responsible for the cost of the most direct and cheapest economic route by air travel for those participating from their city of residence to Muscat permitting arrival on 11 September 2005 and return by the first available flight after the closure of the workshop. Participants will then be contacted for their tickets. They should comply with the selected routing and see that their return reservations are confirmed before leaving their countries for Muscat, Oman. Any deviation over this routing would be at the traveler’s expense, including additional travel days for which WHO bears no responsibility.

:::: Visas

Participants should obtain, at their own cost, visas to enter Oman before traveling. Should any assistance be required, they should contact either the WHO Representative or the Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme in their countries. Meanwhile, this Office is prepared to assist participants from countries where Consular Authorities of Oman are not available in obtaining their visas on arrival at the airport provided full details are faxed/telexed at least three weeks in advance to obtain necessary visa. :::: Health documents

Participants are kindly requested to check with the travel agents or airline concerned regarding health requirements and should be in possession of valid certificate(s) for whichever vaccination is required. A yellow fever-vaccination certificate is required from travelers coming from infected areas.

:::: Insurance

Participants are expected to make their own arrangements for accident, illness and baggage insurance if so desired.

:::: Currency

The monetary unit in Oman is Omani Rial (OMR). The WHO official rate of exchange of 1 US$ is currently 0.384 OMR, subject to the daily rate of exchange. Traveler's cheques and foreign currency can be exchanged at your hotel, or at any bank in Oman.
